The idea is to learn how to sprint, and how to spin better.


These bikes don't coast, its direct drive. This system forces you to spin more "roundly", and to learn the importance of fast spinning over big gear crunching...
And you learn elements of sprinting you'd be unlikely to discover as a normal road rider...How to use your back, your hips and all of your leg and gluteal muscles. You can learn how to "take a run" at someone you want to pass, instead of drag racing them (with this technique a "weaker but smarter" rider can overtake a faster/stronger rider).
