You're invited: Celebrity-studded UK tourism advert aired alongside riot footage

It was meant to be the inclusive tag line encouraging the world to come to the London Olympics and explore Britain.

But the 'You're invited' advert created by the British tourist board has had to be pulled from several slots on the BBC website after it appeared alongside riot footage.

The advert, which showcases the best of London and uses celebrities such as Dame situs judi slot online terbaik dan terpercaya no 1 Dench, Rupert Everett and Dev Patel, is seen before certain programmes by international users of the BBC online.

You're invited: The tagline took on an unfortunate meaning when shown alongside riot images

In the short film, the iconic stars repeat the tag line 'You're invited' as viewers see the London skyline, football matches and historic attractions outside the capital - such as Stonehenge.

A voiceover adds in other phrases such as 'You're intrigued', 'You're inspired', and 'You're in awe', as some of Britain's best-known attractions are shown on screen.

But when placed just before news footage showing London double-decker buses smashed and burning, and smoke billowing over the capital just north of Wembley stadium, the message took on a rather more sinister note.

Star appeal: Dame Judi Dench appears in the video to invite international visitors to Britain

When the organisation behind the film, Visit Britain, realised it was running ahead of news stories on the violent riots that have gripped the capital and beyond, it was hurriedly removed.

A spokesperson for the tourist board said Visit Britain realised the film was 'inappropriate' so moved it to other areas of the site.

Inappropriate: The advert was running alongside footage of the riots

The 'You're invited' video will return to its pre-news slot when it is considered fitting.

'We're not losing any revenue, we have just moved the advert to other parts of the site,' a spokesperson told TravelMail.

'We will switch the advert back on to appear just ahead of the news once we have made sure it is appropriate.

It is unfortunate, but has not affected the rest of our marketing strategy, which remains in place.'

The 'You're invited' marketing campaign is set to go global this autumn, using local people to invite the world to explore Britain.

Visit Britain is running a four-year campaign, with the Olympics at its heart, to encourage an extra four million tourists to visit our shores.
